The ‘Old Cleek’ is Set to Provide Food for Thought in St. Andrews

A new restaurant is to open in St. Andrews in an old golf club factory building.

Forgan’s, a showpiece restaurant and public bar, is set open in may and will boast features created by Glasgow’s Corinthian designer, Jim Hamilton.

It will feature ‘bothies’ – five private spaces, each with their own wood burning stove.

Housed in a warehouse which sits behind the popular mitchell’s deli, the building used to be a Forgan ‘cleek’ factory, which is reputed to be the oldest golf club factory in the world, dating back to 1860s.

Cleeks were the name given to number one irons – and Forgan’s hopes to have one of the golf clubs on display in the bar.

Michelle Nabal, General Manager of Forgan’s, said: “There’s already a great buzz of excitement about Forgan’s and we are sure that it will go down a storm with locals, students and visitors alike.”

The company said its food and drink menu was inspired by products from local artisan suppliers and producers.
